Story Comprehension Q&A


As we enter another shortened week of lessons, please note that Friday, October 9th (10/09) is an official holiday. In accordance with the school’s academic schedule and calendar, students will take the Westlandia Unit Test and Week 6 Story Vocabulary Test on Thursday, October 8th (10/08).

To help students prepare, please encourage your child to review their daily lessons, classwork, and homework assignments. Regular review and practice at home will help strengthen their understanding and better prepare them for the upcoming unit test.

Beginning Monday, October 5th, our lessons will focus on:

  • Highlighting key story elements page by page in Westlandia
  • Identifying important details and evidence from the story
  • Reviewing and understanding the context and meaning of the Week 6 vocabulary words
  • Practicing reading comprehension and applying the vocabulary in context

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. With the shortened week, consistent review at home will be especially helpful in ensuring that students feel prepared and confident for Thursday’s assessments.

Week 3 Out of My Mind

As  A1 students begin  Week 3 of  Out of My Mind , their primary focus will be  the My View Literacy Book (the big book) . Students will work on reading and understanding the concepts presented on each page, with an emphasis on story comprehension and identifying the key elements of fiction writing . This week’s vocabulary words are taken directly from the story. To support students’ understanding, they will use a visual vocabulary study guide that presents each word in a simple and accessible way, helping them connect the vocabulary to the story and its context. Our Unit Test will be on Friday, September 18th . To help students prepare, I will provide a study guide along with additional supplemental materials as homework throughout the week and review activities .
